REASONS WHY YOU’RE A PEOPLE PLEASER

You’re afraid of being judged, criticised, and people may think of you.
You’re afraid of conflict.
You’ve been conditioned by the punishment and reward mechanisms of your upbringing, school, teachers, peers, and colleagues to avoid short term pain and accept long term pain.

LIES THE PEOPLE PLEASER TELLS THEMSELVES

I do it for others.
I don’t expect anything in return.
The world would be better if everyone did the same.
The alternative makes you selfish.

WHAT PEOPLE PLEASING COSTS YOU (AND OTHERS)

Other people dump their workload on you.
You get a life designed by other people.
You feel stressed and overwhelmed because you have too much work and work you resent doing.
Your physical, financial and emotional needs come last.
You are likely to burn out and suffer ill health.
Others become dependent, reliant, and expectant of you and don’t grow or learn to take care of themselves.
Your productivity and effectiveness suffers.
You are less fun or engaging socially.

BENEFITS OF DOING RIGHT BY YOU

Your energy, and passion increases.
You become a nicer person because when you help others it’s because you want to, not because you feel begrudgingly obliged.
Your productivity increases.
You find your passion.
You are happier and more fulfilled.
The world is better off because you live by your purpose.
You have more fun because when you say yes you want to be there.
You’re more fun to be around.

YOUR BIGGEST OBSTACLE

You have to be willing to piss people off. Not intentionally, but sometimes that’s a side effect of standing up for yourself and doing the right thing. Do it anyway.
